Ingredients

Spiced Apple Cobbler Base
  • 2 cans (21 oz) apple pie filling premium quality
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon plus pinch of nutmeg
  • ¼ cup brown sugar packed
Golden Cinnamon Roll Topping
  • 1 can (17.5 oz) Pillsbury Grands Cinnamon Rolls set icing aside
  • 2 tablespoon melted butter unsalted
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar optional crunch
Finishing & Serving
  • 1 container cream cheese icing warmed slightly
  • 1 scoop per serving vanilla bean ice cream optional but recommended

Method

Assemble & Bake
  1. Prep Oven & Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or 10-to-12-inch round ceramic casserole dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Season Apple Layer: Empty both cans of apple pie filling into the prepared baking dish. Spread into an even layer, then sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, and ¼ cup of brown sugar. Gently toss directly in the dish to infuse the apples.
  3. Cut Cinnamon Rolls: Open the can of cinnamon rolls and set the icing cup aside at room temperature. Cut each large cinnamon roll into 6 bite-sized pieces (or quarters) using a sharp knife or kitchen shears.
  4. Scatter Dough Evenly: Evenly scatter the cinnamon roll pieces across the top of the spiced apples, nestling them slightly into the fruit filling so they absorb the syrup while baking. Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse turbinado sugar.
  5. Bake to Golden Perfection: Bake uncovered at 375°F for 30 to 35 minutes, until the cinnamon roll bites are puffed, deeply golden-brown, and cooked through in the center, and the apple juices are bubbling around the edges. (If tops brown too quickly around minute 25, tent loosely with aluminum foil).
Glaze & Serve
  1. Warm Glaze: Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes. Warm the reserved cream cheese icing in the microwave for 10 to 12 seconds until pourable, then generously drizzle all over the golden cinnamon rolls.
  2. Serve Warm: Spoon generous portions into dessert bowls while piping hot. Top immediately with a large scoop of premium vanilla bean ice cream and let the ice cream melt into the spiced cinnamon apple gravy!
