Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 4 cups fresh cherries pitted and halved
  • 1 cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch for thickening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted

Method
 

Prepare the Filling
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the cherries, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Stir until well mixed.
  2. Pour the cherry mixture into a greased baking dish.
Make the Topping
  1. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of the batter over the cherry filling, covering it as much as possible.
Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
